What Is Dog Hydrotherapy And How Does It Work?

Hydrotherapy has been around for thousands of years! It's an ancient treatment that has been utilised for both humans and animals for medical conditions as well as maintaining fitness and health.

Our hydrotherapy facility has an underwater treadmill that allows every treatment session to be controlled and as safe as possible. The water is warm as this helps to reduce pain and inflammation. Water resistance has many benefits for injured or overweight doggos such as reducing pressure on the joints, improving muscle mobility and range of motion. It builds cardiovascular fitness and improves blood circulation thus, improving your dog's overall quality of life.

So, if your canine has an injury, needs pre and/or post surgery rehabilitation, is arthritic or becoming overweight, we can provide hydrotherapy treatments and conditioning programs individually tailored for your dog. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive rehabilitation care program for muscular, skeletal or

neurological  issues plus so much more!

What Is  Cold Laser Therapy And How Does It Work?

Photobiomodulation (PBM) is the scientific name for the process behind Cold Laser Therapy. It refers to the use of specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular activity and promote natural healing.

PBM is a bit of a tongue-twister so it's more widely known as Cold Laser Therapy. You may have also heard the term Low-Level Laser Therapy or LLLT - they're all basically the same thing.

Cold Laser Therapy is a safe, non-thermal (cold), non-invasive treatment that uses light to stimulate natural healing in your dog’s, cat's or your own body. It’s a popular choice for reducing pain, easing inflammation, and speeding up recovery from injury or surgery. It’s a completely non-invasive, drug-free and pain-free process.

At our clinic, we use Cold Laser Therapy as a gentle but effective addition to hydrotherapy as the two modalities work very well together. It can also however, be used as a stand-alone treatment making it beneficial to those times when your pet cannot go into the water - for example, when they have hot spots.

Cold Laser Therapy can be especially beneficial for:

  • Arthritis and joint pain

  • Muscle strains or sprains

  • Post-surgical healing

  • IVDD and spinal conditions

  • Cruciate ligament injuries

  • Wound healing or skin conditions

Your pet won’t feel any pain during treatment - just a soothing sensation as the laser goes to work. You can check out some of the most frequently asked questions here on our FAQ page.

How Does Cold Laser Therapy Work?

When light reaches your dog’s tissues, it’s absorbed by the cells and it:

  • Increases cellular energy (ATP)

  • Enhances circulation

  • Reduces inflammation and pain

  • Accelerates tissue repair and recovery

Cold Laser Therapy works beautifully alongside hydrotherapy, helping us reduce inflammation and support tissue repair more efficiently. It’s all about giving your doggo or kitty the best chance at comfort, mobility and long-term wellbeing!
